COVID-19 Memo to Anderson ATA Members

May Update 5-3-2020
We all know how the COVID-19 virus has impacted our lives negatively.  On the flip side we have also had positive impacts at the same time.  For My family the negative impacts on our business and every day stress has been increased.  In your life, it might be unemployment, outstanding bills or the fear of the virus itself.   We have all had extra stress or fears of uncertainty and doubt during this time.  We fear touching anything around us sometimes even the people we love most.
(I was glad to see at belt pick up that I am not the only person with a bottle of hand sanitizer in my cup holder)
That being said we have also had wins and growth that might not have happened without the lockdown.  I was forced to learn the technology behind ZOOM something I had doubts about on day one.  I am thrilled that our classes have worked as well as they have.  I love the fact that I live in a time that we can still gather and run classes on line.  The other Instructors have found great satisfaction in running private lessons. We are now the proud parents of three new baby chickens.  We have a chicken coop and a garden now in our back yard.  Bridget was saying last night how much she is enjoying all the yard work.  Something like yard work, that only a month ago we might have tried to avoid.
This testing cycle there will be no life skill requirement.  Instead we will require each student to have a 19 goal.  19 till recently was always one of my luck or favorite numbers.  Lots of things in Taekwondo are based on the numbers 3 and 9.  Nine letters in name Taekwondo, 81 moves in the 1st degree black belt form 9x9 and many more associations with the number 9. As fan of the number 19 I feel it is my duty to make it a positive for others.
So this testing cycle we will have a Goal based off of 19.  That goal can be anything you chose based off the number 19 that you like.  Remember that a goal is only a dream till you write it down.  Here are examples of goals you might set based off the number 19.
  • Read for 19 minutes per day
  • Attend 19 online ATA classes in the next month or two
  • Do 19 chores per week, month or testing cycle
  • Do 19 random acts of kindness
  • Raise $19 to give to a charity
  • 19 minutes per day on Lexia and Dream Box
Lose 19 pounds this testing cycle!  This is my personal 19 Goal.  I currently weigh 259 pounds and will be at 240 by the end of June.  This 19 goal is something that not only our students can do but everyone around us can do to make 19 a positive.

I would like to thank everyone again for supporting our small business and continuing to train with us.
Sincerely,
Master Anderson

UPDATE TO MEMO Posted on 3/13/2020

We are asking that all students and Instructors (WASH) hands between every class. We are in the same situation as everyone else when it comes to hand sanitizer and wipes we will run out. Please WASH hands we have plenty of antibacterial soap and paper towels.
Dots on the floor, we will only stand on odd numbered dots. This way incase someone sneezes we add distance between our students.
Parents will be asked to hold bags and wipe them down after every use. Bags as well as any training weapons.
You might be asked to leave the floor and wash hands again by the Instructors. We all know the numbers now on how many times we touch our face per day. Washing hands is for your safety as well as the instructors.
We will continue to monitor and adjust to this fast moving situation. My family has decided not to take our cruise next week for our safety as well as that of the families that support us. We will spend the week in Florida on a beach instead. For those leaving on spring break please stay safe and healthy. I will be available by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns.

In the event of local schools closing we will be looking to add daily Taekwondo camps. We are working on that as an option for you and your kids.

UPDATE TO MEMO Posted on 3/17/2020

Due to the recent announcement from our states governor all classes are cancelled starting at noon today.  We are working on setting up an online class option to start next week with an online signup as well.  Stay safe everyone!

Original Memo

Anderson’s ATA Members,
The health and safety of you, your family and friends is our top priority. Therefore, we have been monitoring the latest information on COVID-19 as it comes from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and WHO (World Health Organization) as well as locally the U of I and the local school districts.
We want you to feel confident when attending ATA classes. We are taking every precaution necessary to prevent the spread of this virus.
Please do not shake hands, fist bump, high five, hug, etc. until the threat of COVID-19 subsides in order to help us in preventing the spread. For the time being, show your respect and support for each other by bowing. We ask that you ensure all equipment is washed and/or wiped down with anti-bacterial products on a regular basis. Recommendations also include avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth; cover coughs and sneezes; cough into elbow; clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces; and wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will inform you of any updates we have regarding these classes as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience and trust in our Instructors.

Sincerely,
Master Anderson
P.S. We are still looking for more hand sanitizer for our students. If you see an extra bottle at any local store please pick one up for us and we will reimburse you for it. The prices on Amazon and EBay are out of control.
